The LeadSafe Charlotte Program listing of LeadSafe Housing is provided to inform the renting community of affordable housing units that have been made safe from lead-based paint hazards.

If ingested, lead-based paint can be toxic and hazardous, particularly to children under the age of six. The units listed on the next page have been made lead safe by the City of Charlotte Neighborhood Development Department through grant funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

IMPORTANT ADVISORY:

• The units shown on the next page were evaluated to be lead safe on the date listed. However, it cannot be assumed to have remained lead safe unless the owner has followed an "Ongoing Lead-Based Paint Maintenance Program."

• Such a program includes: annual visual assessments; written notice asking occupants to report any deteriorated paint; following maintenance schedules; having the property periodically re-evaluated; keeping the unit free from dust with the use of proper cleaning methods; and, using "lead safe work practices" and properly trained maintenance workers.

• The prospective renter or buyer should check with the owner to determine if these requirements have been met before assuming the unit continues to be lead safe.

• Units will remain listed for a period of three years.
