Does this unit have a Rental Certificate (RUCO)?

In Greensboro, local ordinance requires all rental units to have a Rental Certificate (RUCO) or be covered by a sampling letter in order to be rented after January 1, 2009. Click here  to read the ordinance (Section 11-40). To schedule an inspection of your rentals, call 336-373-2111. The purpose is to document your compliance with minimum housing safety standards. If a rental unit has a "RUCO" and then has code violations not repaired and reinspected in 45 days, the RUCO is revoked and the unit cannot be rented. To get another RUCO after the unit finally passes inspection, pay $250.

The purpose is to help you be fair so that there will be no need to do fair housing enforcement.

Greensboro Housing Coalition gives Ready to Rent certificates to tenants who complete a 12 hour class plus homework to demonstrate that they are taking responsibility for any previous rental history. Call Greensboro Housing Coalition at 336-691-9521 to discuss any screening concessions you may be willing to offer based on an applicant's documentation of a changed life. Some (not all) tenants with Ready to Rent certificates may also have rent vouchers to assist with rent payment and/or supportive services so that you will have a case manager to call if small issues arise.
